Take our tour to the Salar de Atacama salt flat and discover some of Chile's most stunning landscapes. You will also visit the remote village of Toconao and see its wonderful white adobe church.
Salar de Atacama and Toconao Tour
After collecting you from the center of San Pedro de Atacama, we will head south until we reach the small village of Toconao.
The white stone buildings make this village stand out in the middle of the red dunes of the Atacama desert. We will stroll through the tranquil streets and discover the traditional artisan products, handcrafted by the indigenous population whose living mainly depends on raising animals such as Llamas.
After visiting the church of San Lucas and its beautiful adobe bell tower and cactus wood, we will leave the village behind and head to the Jere Valley. Here, you will encounter the spectacular canyon of Toconares.
Thanks to the canyon's special microclimate, and the mountain streams which flow into it, this area is an oasis of fertile, green vegetation in the heart of the arid Atacama desert. From the top of the canyon, you will have a fabulous view of the sharp contrast between the colorful fruit trees and the surrounding red rock landscapes.
The last stage of our tour takes us to the Soncor section of the Salar de Atacama. Forming part of this huge salt flat is the Chaxa lagoon, home to a wide variety of wonderful bird species including flamingos. As you stroll along the water's edge, you will see these magnificent creatures feeding in their natural habitat.
The trip ends back at the same point from where we departed in San Pedro de Atacama, at around 7:30 pm.
Please bear in mind that this tour does not include the compulsory entry fee for the Chaxa lagoon which costs 7,000 Chilean pesos per person (11 USD, €10 approx.).
