Sofia Evening Tour
Tour Details
At the scheduled time, we’ll meet in front of the impressive Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Sofia’s most recognizable symbol, whose illuminated silhouette will leave you speechless. From here, we’ll begin a walk through the historic center to see how nighttime lighting transforms the city’s atmosphere.
Our first stop will be Saint Sofia Church, one of the finest examples of early Christian architecture in southeastern Europe. Nearby, we’ll admire the Russian Church of St. Nicholas, where you’ll learn about the unique story of Father Seraphim and the church’s distinctive Moscow-inspired architectural style.
We’ll continue toward the former Royal Palace. From the outside, we’ll review some of the most dynamic and turbulent periods in Bulgaria’s history. Just a short walk away, we’ll reach the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, one of the city’s most beautiful buildings, especially striking under the evening lights.
The tour will also take us to the Rotunda of St. George. At night, we’ll enjoy the calm atmosphere of this early Orthodox temple without the usual crowds.
We’ll then travel back in time as we walk over the ruins of Serdica, a 4th-century city that lies beneath the modern streets. Near the end of the tour, we’ll see the Banya Bashi Mosque, one of the oldest in Europe, built in the 16th century.
Finally, 2 hours later, we’ll conclude the evening tour back at Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
