Day Trip Details

At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in El Calafate and set off along the Ruta Provincial 15, known as the route of the ranches or the route of the pioneers. Why do they call it that? We'll tell you about it as we drive along and enjoy the typical Patagonian steppe scenery.

On the outskirts of El Calafate is the Cenotaph of Rebel Patagonia, where we'll make a brief stop to see this monument erected by the martyrs of the workers' strikes in the region in 1921.

We'll return to the road and head towards Los Glaciares National Park. During this first part of the journey, the landscape will give us beautiful views of Argentino Lake, with its South and Rico branches, and we'll have the Perito Moreno glacier as a backdrop.

Then, we'll reach the main destination of the day, Lake Roca, 50 kilometres (31 miles) from El Calafate. Before we start walking, we'll visit a group of cave paintings on the shores of the lake. How many centuries must have passed since these engravings were left behind?

Afterwards, we'll set out on a trekking route up to the viewpoint of Lake Roca. The walk, which takes about 15 minutes, will immerse us in the ñire and lenga forests that surround this lake of glacial origin.

If we're lucky, we may even spot some Andean condors soaring in the sky. During the route, we'll talk about the geology of this natural site and learn how the action of the ice has sculpted the mountains of the region. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking!

After enjoying the experience, we'll descend to the Nibepo Aike ranch, where we'll learn about the traditional rural Patagonian life. The best part? We'll sit down to enjoy a typical lunch of roast lamb with a soft drink or a glass of wine. For vegetarians, there will be lentil stew or pumpkin ravioli—a well-deserved feast!

Finally, we'll take a leisurely scenic walk to say goodbye to Lake Roca before returning to your hotel after an 8-hour tour.
