U.S. citizens do not need a visa for tourist visits to Morocco of up to 90 days. You do need a valid passport with at least six months of validity beyond your planned date of entry. However, we always recommend consulting the Moroccan Embassy or Consulate General before your trip for the latest travel information.
The best seasons to visit are spring (March to May) and fall (September to November), when the weather is warm and pleasant before the intense summer heat. While summers can be extremely hot, reaching temperatures of 104°F (40°C), winters can also be quite cold, especially in mountainous regions and in the desert at night, though city escapes in places like Marrakech, Fez, and Casablanca are still enjoyable at this time of year.
While not required, travel medical insurance is highly recommended. Healthcare facilities vary in quality, and private clinics can get expensive. A good policy will cover accidents, illnesses, emergency evacuation, and often lost baggage or trip disruptions. With Civitatis you easily book comprehensive travel insurance for your trip!
Morocco is in the GMT+1 time zone. That usually puts it 5 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time (EST). However, since Morocco doesn’t observe daylight saving time in the same way the U.S. does, the time difference can shift. For example, during U.S. daylight saving time (March to November), Morocco is typically 4 hours ahead of Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). Also note: Morocco sometimes temporarily changes the time during Ramadan.
The official currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). Credit cards are accepted at most hotels, high-end restaurants, and shops—but cash is king in local markets (souks), taxis, and small businesses. You can exchange money at the airport, banks, or use ATMs in major cities.
