Join us on this excursion to Scurati and visit a beautiful village built in a cave. You'll learn all the secrets of the extraction of Botticino di Sicilia, the area's prized marble.
At the selected time, we'll meet at Piazza Garibaldi in Trapani, where we'll board a comfortable vehicle and set off to the charming Sicilian village of Scurati.
Once arrived at our destination, we'll enter the Scurati Caves, also known as the Grotta Mangiapane, inhabited by the Mangiapane family until the 1950s. Mangiapane, in fact, transformed this prehistoric cave into a small village, building houses and small businesses, which remain perfectly preserved. A must-see open-air museum!
Walking through the streets of this small village, we'll go on a journey back in time to discover ancient crafts unknown today and the magical and evocative atmosphere of a bygone era. Fun fact: the most famous living nativity scene in Sicily is held here!
After learning all sorts of interesting facts about the village, we'll head towards the marble quarry of Custonaci, whose mining basin is considered the second most important in Italy. Here, we'll discover all the peculiarities of the famous Botticino di Sicilia, a fine light-colored marble sought after all over the world.
To learn more about the use of this pearly rock, we'll visit the Marble Museum of Custonaci, where we'll see some beautiful sculptures and learn about the process of working marble.
Once the museum visit is over, we'll make our way back to Trapani, where this exciting four-hour excursion will come to an end.
