Sewell Trip

At the scheduled time, we will pick you up at the meeting point in Santiago de Chile before heading south into the spectacular Andes mountain range.

We begin by following the Carretera del Cobre (Copper Road), which will take us past the fascinating mining facilities of El Teniente, which houses up to 1900 miles of galleries. You will hear how this is actually the largest copper mine in the world and other amazing facts.

Then we arrive in Sewell, an old mining town on the slopes of Cerro Negro, more than a staggering 6500 feet above sea level. Once there, we take will take a guided tour of this wonderful ghost town, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2006. You will see the traditional architecture of the historic buildings, the Escala Larga steps, the theatre, the social clubs, and the church.

Next, we will enter the Museum of the Great Copper Mining Industry, where we will learn about the life of the miners in Sewell and how this fascinating village has evolved over the years. After this, we will return to the bus and drive to the Fuente Millán restaurant in Rancagua, a nearby town.

Our trip to Sewell finishes and we return to Santiago de Chile, arriving at around 8:30 pm.
