  • 16 hours.

Set off to the Barcelona during an independent full day trip by high-speed train from Madrid and discover this beautiful Mediterranean city at your own leisure.

Itinerary

Head to Atocha train station bright and early and board your AVE (Spain’s high-speed train), which departs at 7:30am. During the three-hour journey, sit back and enjoy the scenery of mountain ranges and river valleys. You’ll arrive at Barcelona-Sants train station at 10:40am.

You’ll have a full day to visit the “City of Counts” as it is often called at your own pace and explore its historic and cultural attractions as well as try the region’s delicious cuisine. We recommend you head to the Gothic Quarter upon arrival, to Plaça de Sant Jaume, where you’ll find some of the neighborhood’s most impressive monuments. Next, walk to the Cathedral and to Plaça del Rei and to Santa Maria del Mar, a striking Catalan Gothic church.

From the Basilica, you can stroll to Barceloneta Beach and take the promenade that leads to the Columbus Monument, at the end of the renowned La Rambla, a pedestrian street in central Barcelona.  If you walk up this boulevard you will get to Plaza de Cataluña.

Your train back to Madrid departs at 8pm from Barcelona Sants railway station. You’ll arrive in the capital city at approximately 11:10pm.
